Monsoon Flying
Why Turbulence Can Be Stronger

Flying during rainy weather can sometimes mean encountering sudden turbulence, especially around areas of intense thunderstorms.

Powerful storm clouds frequently develop over the Bay of Bengal during the monsoon. These clouds contain strong upward and downward air currents, which can create significant turbulence for aircraft flying nearby.

However, some turbulence can develop unexpectedly or may not be clearly detected in advance.

For passengers, the simplest safety measure is to keep the seatbelt fastened whenever seated, even when the seatbelt sign is switched off.

Following cabin crew instructions can also help reduce the risk of injury during sudden turbulence.
