Pune Sees Season’s Heaviest Rain, More Showers Ahead

Heavy rainfall in Pune, with wet roads and vehicles moving cautiously on a rain-soaked highway.

Pune has recorded its heaviest rainfall of the season, with Lohegaon receiving 112 mm, Pashan 141 mm, and Shivajinagar 97 mm in just 24 hours.

This marks the city’s highest rainfall figures so far, surpassing September’s normal 140 mm average.

The downpour was triggered by a cyclonic circulation over Marathwada linked to a weakening monsoon system.

While showers are expected to continue lightly over the weekend, heavier spells are likely toward the end of September as another strong system develops over the Bay of Bengal.

Pune’s monsoon, which underperformed in July and August, has picked up pace this month, with the city now set for more rain before withdrawal in early October
