After the tropical depression made landfall on Wednesday, it will dominate the weather across much of eastern and central India over the coming days.

Extreme rainfall is expected through Saturday, particularly across parts of East Madhya Pradesh, East Maharashtra, East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, as well as parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal. Locally, very high rainfall totals may accumulate within a short period of time. Flooding, rising water levels in smaller and medium-sized rivers, and landslides in mountainous terrain are possible.

In addition to the heavy rainfall, very windy conditions will persist across much of the eastern half and central parts of the country. Some regions may also experience very strong wind gusts of up to 90 kph which may also cause disruption.

Over the coming days, the depression is expected to weaken and move further north. However, by the weekend, heavy rainfall cannot be ruled out across Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
