Eco-Friendly Traditions of India

Kullad ChaiEnjoying a cup of tea without doing harm to environment came naturally to our ancestors!

Traditional way of living has always been eco-friendly and respectful to nature.

People across India have been living in harmony with their environment for ages. Even today many Indians prefer the old ways which give utmost importance to plants, animals and local climatic conditions!

  • Natural clothing: Traditional Indian clothes are adapted to the weather conditions. Think about mundus in Kerala where it is often hot, humid and rainy. Garments made of cotton and silk, unlike synthetics, let skin breathe and protect from sunburn and skin infections. Turbans in Gujarat or Rajasthan serve as elegant personal heat protection!
  • Temperature-sensitive food: Our ancestors used to eat certain food only in the season. They knew very well which food items had a cooling or heating effect on the body. Take an example of sattu: it is made of roasted gram flour and can be consumed as a drink to provide both nutrition and remove excessive body heat!
  • Making space for birds and animals: Chabutara can be found in Gujarat and Rajasthan. It is a special structure made for feeding birds and providing them with water.
