Monsoon Progress & Absence of Cyclonic Systems

Monsoon Progress & Absence of Cyclonic Systems

The Indian Seas remain unusually quiet, with no cyclonic storms, depressions, or significant disturbances over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.

The last cyclone, Ditwah, occurred during the post-monsoon season of 2025 and mainly impacted Sri Lanka with heavy rainfall.

This year, the pre-monsoon season passed without any storm formation, repeating last year’s trend. The Southwest Monsoon reached Kerala on June 4 but has advanced mainly along the west coast, while interior regions of South India continue to see below-normal rainfall.

How Common are Cyclones to Arabian Sea?

Weather experts warn that without a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, monsoon progress may remain sluggish.

A temporary pause in monsoon advancement is possible, though scattered pre-monsoon activity is expected across northern India in the coming weeks.
